This is one of my favorite radio shows just because of its simplicity and how much it can pick up a lot of FM radio stations. I surfed the world in search of a single transistor FM receiver. I've seen a couple but they were always attached to some kind of added device, like another IC or another amplification transistor in the same receiver. In my constant search for a single, better-than-true transistor, I happened to pass through a super regenerative receiver, by Charles Kitchin, famous for his extensive knowledge of renewable designs. I printed out and made the schematic. It turns out very well.
This is the simplest fm radio receiver with good performance and works great even if the sensitivity is not very high. The principle of operation of this FM receiver may seem somewhat unusual. It is made of a synchronous oscillator with the received frequency of T1. This transistor works as a wideband amplifier in the VHF range.
